Trump's Border Success Allows A Huuge Immigration Reform Opportunity

The GOP keeps giving Democrats the opportunity to make bad decisions on immigration like President Biden’s border crisis, by not taking the opportunity themselves when they have the White House and majorities in Congress. That trend should end now. After President President Trump’s success in solving the border crisis within weeks of his presidency, he has another huuge immigration opportunity before the mid terms while Republican majorities in Congress are a certainty. He can simultaneously keep securing the border and offer a points based ability to prosper ( ATP) immigration reform system that would allow current undocumented immigrants and DACA recipients to earn a way to adjust their status,  while expelling people with undesirable behaviors. Democrats tried to expand their voter base with open borders policies and it backfired bigley. Not long ago Democrats where confident they would expand their base so large that Republicans would be in the political wilderness for decades.

Trump could in turn now massively grow GOP’s political advantages and voter base by finally reforming legal immigration to admit or keep immigrants in America who are productive and law abiding by using a ATP program. It could also be used to vet legal migrant applicants for H-B1 programs or students on visas if they want to stay in America. President Trump has been successful in apprehending criminal migrants and deporting them, which most Americans support including law abiding immigrants. He won large Latino constituencies along the border who have not voted Republican in decades because they experienced the dis-order and crime from Biden's border crisis. A significant accomplishment of president Trump's border policies that has gone largely unreported. While apprehensions at the border have declined by 97% , the seizures of hard drugs including Fentanyl has increased by 47% as border agents are able to now concentrate on border security. Fentanyl is the leading killer of Americans 18yrs old to 45 yrs old, which means President Trump's border policies have saved countless American lives.

America has immensely benefited from the brain drain of skilled, already educated and ambitious or entrepreneurial talented immigrants from other countries. However, a severely broken and disorderly system has also attracted those who harm or but a burden on our society. A points based Ability To Prosper (ATP) criteria system would make immigration work more effectively for America again which would also help the GOP politically. An ATP system decide who stays, get removed or be given a probationary period to earn a path of legal residency if they score a certain number of these points within a certain time. To take part all undocumented immigrants must be out of the shadows enrolled and vetted or face immediate removal. Having a specialized or vocational skill, certain educational qualifications, paying taxes or operating a successful business and passing a rigorous civics test would score points. Criminal records, being on government assistance or unable to support one’s self would give negative points which could lead to removal. 

A proper guest worker program should also be apart of any serious immigration reform. If Mr Trump wants to expand America’s manufacturing base, America will need ambitious and skilled workforce. Many are already here in the shadows. A guest worker program especially for regional countries would also help. It would stem the number people who seek to remain permanently undocumented while filling certain seasonal labor needs not sufficiently met in current markets. A major reason millions plan to come and stay and bring their families is because they can’t re enter if they leave. Especially in our hemisphere. It would also be a path to vet those who could meet the requirements of a ATP criteria if they decide they want to earn the path become an American.  Most DACA recipients would already have met those standards to earn a pathway to a green card.

Most Americans would like to see criminal immigrants deported but they would also like to see a legal path for those who have been here and lived productive lives especially DACA recipients. An ATP immigration system would be a political win for Trump and the GOP and one which Democrats would get face lash to oppose. It would simultaneously establish law and order while being humane.

As an immigrant, the biggest distinction between why some countries are First World like America and Third World nations which people flee, is an order based society. Democrats have consistently eroded law and order in America on the virtuously dubious guise to be humane. Instead anywhere their polices have dominated in America look like the Third World nations millions fled. Many law abiding immigrants know this and it would be a benefit to keeping America a First World Country if given the chance to earn a way to be apart of it.
